Dr Sullivan on the CRO Podcast
Dr. Sullivan is a Starting Strength Coach and owner of Grey Steel Strength and Conditioning in Farmington, MI. Dr. Sullivan’s practice helps older adults get stronger and have a high quality of life as they age. In the podcast CRO host Kyle Cronauer and Sully discuss major points of strength training and cardiovascular training for aging populations. Specifically how strength training makes other training not only possible, but more effective, which is true for all populations. On October 24th, 2015 members of Silverback Strength and Conditioning demonstrated this to be true. Mickey, Jim, Brenda and Jeanne completed the Tough Mudder near Las Vegas. What is remarkable about this is that they range in age from mid-fifties to mid-sixties and they each had the ability to complete the 12 mile obstacle course. Also they each remarked that they felt strong enough to execute the obstacles throughout. Another thing worth mentioning is that the group didn’t include cardiovascular training until about a month before the race. These statements are in agreement with what Kyle and Dr. Sullivan discuss in the podcast linked below along with the foursome before and after the Tough Mudder. While it may not be your goal to run an obstacle course, one has to ask that if this group can do something that hard how easy are the everyday tasks in their day to day lives? Everyone can get stronger, and should.
